How do we envision an alternative to the deeply embedded tradition of yellow perilism in the Western imagination? In conjunction with the launch of the Yellow Peril Digital Archives, please join us in an exploration of the significance of this online collection of anti-Asian images drawn from pop culture ephemera, and how contemporary artists interact with these images to create new expressions of identity, and shape new conversations about race and society. Moderated by Jack Tchen, Founding Director, A/P/A Institute, NYU and Victoria Loke, Editor of the Yellow Peril Archive editorial, includes presentations by: Dylan Yeats, Hannah Baek, and Ashley Syed, and panelists: Chi-hui Yang, Pato Hebert, and Juliet Shen.
This program is co-sponsored by A/P/A Institute at NYU.
