MoCA and the Tenement Museum are teaming up to present "Your Day is My Night," a live film performance featuring Asian American actors. The performance deals with the "shift bed" phenomenon prevalent in Chinatown. Basically, workers take turns sleeping in beds that they rent because they work long hours and can't afford to live in spaces of their own. This blog is concerned about Chinatown and its many types of residents so if you're interested in learning more about this phenomenon, this hybrid performance/documentary presentation will definitely be compelling!
Pathmark on Cherry Street closing in December
For those who may be unfamiliar with the geography of Chinatown, it might seem as if there's no short supply of fresh fruits and veggies. But for the many seniors and low income families living on the eastern edge of the community, the Pathmark on Cherry St. is often the only option for pharmacy services and groceries. That's why it's disappointing that it will close in December and will be replaced by a luxury condo. If you are interested in more information about what you can do to have your voice heard by the developer, check out the Two Bridges Neighborhood Council and check out the Lo-Down, a blog about the LES:
